As newsed in malaysiakini shutters down at uthaya's law firm
As the clock strike 12 midnight marking July 13th 2008 that is exactly 6 months of Hindraf leaders been detained under the draconian ISA act , our beloved Uthayakumar’s legal firm which has witnessed numerous historical meetings was shutdown.
This heartbreaking event took place as his family members could not bear the financial needs to keep his office running. Uthayakumar’s family members tried to keep the office for the last
6 months , but RM1700 per month as rental was too much for them. Knowing their problem there were some kind souls willing to pay up the monthly rentals , however when Uthaya was informed about this ,he turned down their offers saying people’s money should never be used
to fund his personal expenses rather it should be only channeled for public interest. Uthaya also informed his sister that he has no regrets as he was prepared for such situations when he first decided to take up the struggle of the Malaysian Indian community.
Uthayakumar’s office was used as the base to plan and execute both policewatch and Hindraf activities. This was where the historical Hindraf November 25th rally was planned which leads to the downfall of Barisan Nasional.
A heavy hearted team of volunteers cleared the office only leaving behind memories.
